Ilse Koehn was six years old in 1935 when, unknown to her, she became a Mischling, second degree citizen in Nazi Germany because her grandmother was Jewish. Ilse's family did all they could to ensure that the secret would not be discovered. The bright-eyed girl joined the Hitler Youth Movement, went to evacuation camps in the countryside, and attended a military training camp in Czechoslovakia.
